Brother-and-sister duo Emma Baxter and Aaron Baxter, with special guest, their cousin Dylan Phillips, play the full Fire Monster suite live for the first time!
Fire Monster is a graphic novel, a poetry collection, and a tale inspired by a devastating 1976 Cape Breton wildfire. It’s also a collection of beautifully illustrated original songs.Join these fantastic musicians with Fire Monster co-authors Anita Lahey and Pauline Conley (the perfomers’ mother and aunt!) for a special night of music and words. It’s the kitchen party we’ve been waiting for!
Pauline Conley recently forayed from an established career as a painter and explainer to 'do comics.' Anita Lahey is the author of three poetry collections, most recently While Supplies Last (2023, Véhicule Press) and the memoir The Last Goldfish: A True Tale of Friendship. Former colleagues at Ottawa's Arc Poetry Magazine, they relished collaborating on Fire Monster—especially when some of their poetry-spouting characters unexpectedly burst into song! They are thrilled that this original music will be brought to the stage by cousins and musicians Dylan Phillips, Emma Baxter and Aaron Baxter. (Pauline is a proud "Aunt" to Dylan and "Mom" to Emma and Aaron, and it's Emma who set the first few Fire Monster poems to music.)
